Our Purpose:

MARME’S purpose is to empower young girls and women and make them feel like they can conquer the world as soon as they put on their MARME hat. 

MARME is proud to support Girl Up. Girl Up is a girl-centered leadership development initiative, focusing on equity for girls and women in spaces where they are unheard or underrepresented. We believe when girls and women are in positions of influence, they work to create a more just and equitable world for everyone.

Girl Up operates a global network of regional affiliates reaching 270,000 girls in 155 countries. They deliver evidence-based leadership development training through our girl-led Clubs, programs, and events. As members of a global movement, girls are a force for social good — connected to a Community of their peers who are advocating for policy change and advancing gender justice.

Founded in 2010 and hosted by the United Nations Foundation, Girl Up welcomes girls and youth of all gender identities to start a Club and join our movement to advance gender justice worldwide. Together, we are expanding girls’ skills, rights, and opportunities to lead, and changing the face of leadership for generations to come.

MARME’S Story: 

MARME was born in Guanajuato, Mexico, the hat-making capital of the world and where founder and designer, Maria Mejia, was born. The town has been a hat-making center for over 180 years. It makes complete sense why she became obsessed with hats at a very young age. Maria moved to the US when she was a little girl and took with her a dream that one day she would be able to make her own hats where she was born and provide jobs to the people in her hometown of Guanajuato.

Meet the Founder & Designer:

MARME has been Maria's dream for most of her life and was finally born in 2021. Guess we can say “She believed she could, so she did”. After the pandemic hit, many women were left feeling unmotivated and discouraged because of the sudden shift in the world. Maria decided it was the perfect time to finally bring her vision to life, encouraging and reminding women of the limitless power they have within. When you believe in yourself and believe that you can, you can do anything. Quarantine gave Maria the time and opportunity to research factories that could help bring her vision to life. She was able to find a factory to create the perfect, high-quality hats that her customers would love. Maria’s dreams were coming true.

Maria’s expertise in the Fashion Industry as a content creator and a wardrobe stylist had her come to the conclusion that what completes the perfect outfit is a hat. 

When Maria puts on a MARME Hat, she feels the power within takes over and that she is capable of doing anything. That feeling is what she would love to share with all the beautiful young girls and women in the world when they put on their MARME hat.
